The one-way street of transfer windows in darts
After relentless and persistent efforts, the game of darts has finally been able to establish itself as an entertainment filled game for the people of Britain.
This can further be vindicated from the fact that after football, darts is rampantly emerging as a game with the amenity of transfer windows in it.
However, a potential threat to this recent innovation in the framework of darts is that this transfer window is operating uni-directionally.
The transfer of players is only taking place from BDO to PDC and not the other way around.
It is important to mention here that, at present, PDC holds up to 128 tour card holders for the 5 million pound purse of the organisation.
With over 64 players retaining their tour card positions, along with the ones who are carried forward from previous qualification rounds, there are 40 new spots for which players compete against each other.
Interestingly, for these 40 positions more than 213 players join the league to showcase their darting skills.
Also, dropping the relegation rate for players has been allocated at 30%. With Premier League offering just 15%, darts is soon expected to override others in terms of financial leverages and incentives.
The PDC has already dispatched cards to Lakeside players such as Darren Whittingham, Richie Howson and Andrew Cornwall.
For all of them, the journey was smooth enough, except for ‘the count’ where the transfer was accompanied with numerous bumps.
BDO went on a tough course of operations when, prior to his semi-final against Christian Kist, Hankey announced that he is seriously considering moving to PDC.
Due to such a statement, BDO began its campaign of sabotaging his career. However, following a series of diplomatic sessions the issues were resolved, only to provide space for others.
At the final set of the Lakeside semi-final, when the hint of garlic distracted him, Hankey’s mind flashed back to the ongoing dissensions.
In his post-match interview, he clearly said that BDO is to be held responsible for disrupting his game.
It was dubbed as a ‘cry baby’ attitude by many, but it left series of unanswered questions for other BDO players such as Dean Winstanley, who are pondering to shift their loyalty to PDC.
