The only goal for 2011 is wins – Michael Schumacher
The seven time world champion Michael Schumacher returned to Formula One after retiring from the sport in 2006. Michael returned with Mercedes this year and during the pre-season test sessions, it seemed that the German legend
still had it in him. However, Schumacher had the worst season of his entire career statistically and he was unable to outperform his teammate as well.
His teammate, Nico Rosberg finished 7th in the Drivers’ standings with 142 points while Schumacher finished in 9th place with just 72 points. This season was extremely embarrassing for Michael and he has constantly
been blaming his Mercedes for the loss. Mercedes team boss, Ross Brawn echoed the German’s statement about this season that the car was made according to Jenson Button’s likings and Michael is not used to that sort of a car.
Other than that, we are all well aware that some of the drivers have been complaining about the tyre compounds Bridgestone introduced this year and Michael was one of them.
Schumacher is one of the best drivers without a doubt. But versatility is a factor as well and in order to score good results in every situation, a driver should at least have the ability to control a car and draw out the best
performance from it no matter how the car has been set up.
Michael Schumacher stated that he is not aiming for anything less than wins in 2011 and he hopes to score as many wins as he can in his Mercedes. Michael believes that since he is going to be with the team in the development process
this time, he is going to make sure that the team constructs a car that is suitable to his likings and driving style to ensure the best possible result.
“There is really only one goal, and that’s winning. The team won the World Championship last year, so it’s pretty hard for everyone to have a season like we had,” said Michael.
The German stated that 2010 was more like another orientation after his departure from the sport for three years. Michael stated that Mercedes GP is a team that has the ability to win titles and he will do everything he can to
ensure it.
“Of course, from my side, it’s important to identify the weaknesses, but I didn’t have to put my finger into the wound to wake people up. That is done automatically by the results. We are extremely motivated to come into a position
to be able to win, this is the basic requirement,” said Schumacher in an interview.
