The opening statements of the Tainted trio differ
As soon as the hearing of the spot fixing case got underway in Doha, Qatar on the 6th of January, speculation began to rise regarding the defences that the Pakistani players would be constructing for themselves and the differences between them.
The first session of the spot fixing tribunal lasted for approximately seven hours. The session was held at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986 Financial Centre civil and commercial courts. All the players have strongly defended all allegations and accusations against them, stating
that these reports have little truth to them and insisting that they are innocent.
The ICC then started revealing all the evidence that they had collected against the accused players, Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir. The evidence included video footages and phone records along with some strings of evidence collected from the
World Twenty20 tournament that took place in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
It is expected that the ICC will be continuing with the same process on Friday. Many important witnesses will also be called over by the ICC that will include coach Waqar Younis and captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482. Mazher Mahmood will also be appearing as a witness
from the prosecution side. Mazher Mehmood is the journalist and undercover reporter working for The News of the World who carried out the sting operation and broke the story in the newspaper. His statement will also be crucial for the case itself.
Following the appearance of witnesses the players will then be asked to begin their defence. It has been reported by BBC that even before the beginning of the defence, the lawyers had assumed completely different stances over the no balls that were bowled.
According to sources within the BBC they have said that a couple of players have said that they are not privy to why the no balls were ever delivered, while the other said that the no ball was bowled by mistake.
These reports lead to certain officials within the ICC claiming that the information that has been leaked to media has not been leaked by the ICC and has in fact gone out through other sources.
"During this whole process there have been plenty of leaks but we can categorically confirm that none of them have come from the ICC," an ICC official stated.
It is appearing to be highly likely that the players might now take different stances in their defence. The PCB had sent a request to the lawyers to have an observer from the board present during the hearings however two of the three lawyers have rejected
the request. The players have also been staying on their own expenses.
