I've heard this before and it is just possible. They both hate one another but they hate the West even more. I do rather take FOX NEWS  and opinions as a bit of a poor joke but there may just be a point here.

Howevr I think there is some scratching around to try and find some justification for the invasion. democracy was not the real reason

It's actually quite scary so many people in America seem to take Fox news so seriously...but hey as long as you get your Pop Tarts in the morning and foolishly remain in the dark then that's fine....how about sprinkling some of these facts on your Lucky Charms in the morning.

Iran and Iraq were longstanding enemies,  Iraq would only have transferred materiel to them as a very last resort, as they did with most of their air force's aircraft before the first Gulf War (and none of which they ever got back).

we could all debate the rights and wrongs of invading iraq, but at the time, the justification of WMD was, in my opinion at least, a justifiable one

we knew that iraq had WMD (yes, because the west sold them to them, but this was at a time when Iraq was an ally, just as we trained the Mujahadeen and Taliban when they were fighting the Russians), we knew that Hussein was prepared to use WMD from various mustard and nerve gas attacks of Iran and the Kurds, and we knew that all of WMD were not accounted for

the UN stipulated a commission should investigate, and Iraq was non compliant, so what exactly would you assume from that?

Of course you could do nothing, but would you be prepared to accept that you did nothing is and when those WMD were used, and it is quite possible they were moved over the border

Why would they help them? well the enemy of my enemy is my friend - the USA supported Iraq when they were fighting Iran and supported the Taliban when tehy were fighting the Russians - same principal

To all of those handwringers over Iraq, please tell what you would have advocated if you were in charge, would you have made the same decision as the UN did/is doing over Kosovo, Bosnia, Darfur - ie nothing?
