It was sick and grotesque, people were inhumanely chopping up seals right there on the ice in Canada. Then they were dragging the seals on the ice to led them bleed. That was honestly sick. I'm glad I have a strong stomach. Over 250,000 seals are going to be killed this year I think. My question is this, what's the point in hunting seals???? What in the world does it benefit? What do people get from seals, they don't even have fur do they??

  1. They use the baby seals for pelts, meat, and oil. It's highly controversial and really pathetic. I think man would pull the stars from the sky if they could get their grubby hands on them.

  2. There is no such thing as a baby seal hunt. It is against regulations to kill seal pups.

Seals are hunted for their meat, oil and pelts. It is against regulations to skin seals alive.  they bleed on the ice because the animals are prepared outdoors. If a slaughter house was outside it would the the same scene.

something like 90% of seals are shot. the hakipik when used correctly kills the animal instantly.  When cattle are killed they are struck on the head or electrocuted and bled to death. So why is a hamburger okay but flipper pie shocking?

the seal hunt employs thousands of First nations and euro-Canadians. It can provide up to 25% or more of their income which they use to support themselves and their families.

The seal meat and oil is rich in omega 3 and 6 which is good for the heart. There are efforts being made to market the meat and oil more then it already is.  The meat is eaten locally and some is shipped to other countries but there is a lot of potential for it to be used for people and animals. ( My parents dogs love seal meat)

The pelt is water proof and very warm. If you have fur allergies you may not be allergic to seal fur.  In Northern climates seal fur is used in boots and coats because it can withstand the cold.

Harp seals are not at risk. There are over 5 million off the coast of Newfoundland. And that is with an annual seal hunt.

The sealers don't want to kill off all the seals they rely on them for their lively hood just like the fish.

there are a lot of misconceptions about the seal hunt . I think alot of it comes from people being far removed from nature and animals. People go into a super market or fast food joint with out thinking where their food comes from.  When they see images of wildlife being hunted they think it's terrible because they have never associated killing with their food.
