The outer door fell off of my oven. is it safe to use the self clean option?

  1. If something is different from the way the oven was manufactured, I would avoid doing self cleaning or even using the oven all together. You might want to contact the maker of the oven, too. Maybe there was a recall or something to do with the doors falling off. New stoves can be in the $300-500 range with many new features and some large stores even will offer free delivery. It sounds like it's time to get a new stove. Safety is the # 1 priority and if buying a new stove prevents a fire or someone getting hurt, it's money well spent!


  2. Are we on Candid Camera?  If there is no door to the oven, do not use the self clean option.  In fact, it locks the door until it's through ... if there were a door.

    It works by heating the oven hotter than you've ever used to burn any residue or spills off.  Basically, it cremates what's inside so you can wipe it away with a damp cloth.  It's quite effective under normal circumstances.
