Question:

The outside telephone wires are all messed up and i need to re-connect my phone and DSL?

my husband had it working, and he is out of town and i need to try and fix it somehow can anyone please help me, i need to know what wires go where there are a green, red, yellow, and black and a bunch of other colors in the box, i have no idea what i did but if anyone can help I would GREATLY appriciate it!! thank you!!

  1. These are the standard American wiring colors.  Normally the red & green are the first pair with yellow & black being the second pair if needed.  

    On a standard, basic one-line residential system the red & green wires will be connected to the matching terminals at the network interface outside the house then run to the matching red & green connections at each jack.  That will be all that is necessary for a basic line to function properly.

    With more complex scenarios, however, it's rather difficult to say without seeing more of the installation.   If you have a fixed DSL filter somewhere, for example, then there are all sorts of different ways it may have been wired.


  2. telephones work on two wires, the colours you describe sound like alarm cable to me so would be difficult to fault find.

    Normally you would have one going to 2 and one to point 5 on the faceplate so if you can see these it should be easy. Other wise itll be trial and error. Try the green and black first and then leaving the green in try the others, if no luck try leaving red in and connect the others one by one etc. Sorry but l can be no further help unless youre in yorkshire.
