even if you can prove the death of a person, Yahoo does not transfer ownerships of groups, ever. they'll delete it first. there is nothing you can do if there is no one there with the priviledges to appoint a new owner or moderator

Unless there is another moderator or co-owner I believe you are out of luck.  If you have access to the membership list you could start a new group and invite or add the old members.  If you don't have acess to the list you could still start a new group then go through the archives, old posts,  of the previous group and send invites or add the members whose emails are shown..  Good luck. I should have also posted whenyou start your new group change the name a bit to such as grandveera2 then post a mesage on the old site with an explanation and the link.

The owner had to Grant the ownership first. If the account is deleted / expired etc, there is no way to gain it. The best way is to start / create a new group and invite the old group's members to the new one.
