Question:

The paint on the cieling peeled off, how should i fix it? (pic included)?

i already have a can of gloss paint, so should i just repaint the whole cieling surface? if i paint the whole surface instead of just that damaged section, will the cieling look newer again?

  1. That doesn't just look like peeling paint to me. It appears that the coating over the drywall is beginning to flake off.  


  2. You are going to have to scrape any loose paint, and then use joint compound to patch the area where the paint peeled otherwise you will still see the area. Apply Kilz to the area before painting to seal any stains. I would paint the whole ceiling, trying to patch paint an area usually always looks different.

  3. First of all, you will need to scrape the loose compound from the area, and retape if necessary.  Apply 2 light coats (3 if retaping) of mud, then prime the area with a good primer (Zinsser 1-2-3, Kilz).  You can buy cans of spray texture in several different finishes to match the patch to the existing ceiling.  Put 2 coats of paint on the entire ceiling to prevent "flashing", where the patch stands out from the rest of the ceiling.  This is very important on semi-gloss paint.  If you can, you may consider going with a flat or eggshell finish.  They will hide much better.  Hope this helps.

  4. Sand it and get the peeling sections all of and repaint it!
