Question:

The paradox to our life........?

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more but have less; we buy more but enjoy it less. We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences but less time; we have more degrees but less sense; more knowledge but less judgment; more experts but more problems; more medicine but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too seldom, watch TV too much and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We`ve learned how to make a living, but not a life; we`ve added years to life, not life to years.

We`ve been all the way to the moon and back but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor. We`ve conquered outer space but not inner space. We`ve done larger things but not better things. We`ve cleaned up the air but polluted the soul. We`ve split the atom but not our own prejudices.

We write more but learn less, We plan more but accomplish less. We`ve learned to rush but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever but have less communication. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; tall men and short character; steep profits and shallow relationships.

These are the times of world peace but domestic warfare; more leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food but less nutrition. These are days of two incomes but more divorce; of fancier houses but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw-away morality, one-night stands, overweight bodies and pills that do everything from cheer to quiet, to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom; a time when technology can bring this letter to you and a time when you can choose either to share this insight or to just hit delete.

DONT JUST READ .. FEEL IT.

  3. Much truth to that.

  4. A very serious, accurate, insightful, observance from a very funny man.

All of it true. As "Civilisation" continues it's "progress". History has shown that, indeed, each succeeding generation has become more "uncivilised", in the way we treat each other and our beautiful planet.

Each new generation becomes even more narcissistic, impatient, rude, and wasteful, than the previous one.

I worked in the recording industry and also in retail, for many years. Growing up, people used to get household appliances fixed, or parts replaced. Now if they break the glass pot for their coffeemaker, they do not order a new pot. They buy a whole new coffeemaker. They want it "Now", rather than drink instant coffee for the few days it would take to wait for a new glass pot to be sent. In the recording business. I would see artist's and producer's egos too big to fit in the room. Demanding this or that, and throwing a fit to get their way. Hospitality trays of food (enough to feed a few hungry families for days)... Wasted by the artist and their entourage, ending up being thrown out.

We are also becoming lazier yet harder working... Though in very different ways from those of generations past. The hard work often seems focused on creating ways to make life more "Convienient" and lazy. Thus, creating more waste, and further destroying the planet. (the advert below is a good example of this). We buy excercise machines to get in shape. Only to stop using them after a few weeks. Weight was easier to manage in earlier generations. Simply because we had to do more physical activity just to get the basics done. Cleaning required more effort not chemicals. Cars were not as common, so even if you took a bus... You still at least walked to the bus stop, or to your destination. Working parents still had to cook, as take-out and fast food was not as commonly available. Also such foods were seen as a treat not an "everyday meal".

The media claim that each generation is better off than the one before it. But it does make one wonder about the guide of measurement they are using to make this claim.
