Do the people of Ireland behave like the American people towards other ethnic groups?

American TV make fun of them. American children make fun of them. American people start using violence against them.

  1. Hello - from my experience when I went to Ireland, they were very friendly! They spoke and always said hello, it was ovious that I was not from there, as I am Philippina and had no accent (born and raised in calif.)

My friend came down and joined me, and she is hispanic. We went to a pub (which I noticed most pubs are NOT dance clubs??) but we made it one, everyone joned in and they invited us to come back the following night! We had so much fun I would love to go back and bring my husband.

We went to: Dublin, manooth and Leixlip.

  2. No they are very friendly and nice.

And also I have never once seen American TV make fun of them, i've never heard a child make fun of them the most i've heard from them is oh my goshh i love their voice. And everything else.

  3. Wow, that would put anyone off going to America ....

I think that most of Ireland is pretty welcoming to ethnic groups - depending on how extreme these groups are perceived to be. There are difficult areas such as polygamy for example - a Muslim man may have more than one wife in a Muslim state, but I don't think that this is permitted in Ireland, but to be honest, I don't actually know what the story is in legislation. People might feel that a Muslim woman should be entitled to remove her chador (head and face covering) in Ireland, but again, I'm not sure how this is according to legislation here. I have seen Muslim women who live and work here with their heads covered and dressed very modestly, and I don't think anyone really comments on this anymore. I think that having the face covered as well would certainly arouse comment, however.

Lots of foreigners living in Ireland, incidentally. Many Eastern Europeans, and they do like to stick together, as many Irish tend to do when they are abroad in a country where the official language is not English.

It's very interesting you should say that about Americans, especially considering that so many of them are so keen to find out where their ancestors came from and to establish links with relatives in those countries.

I suspect that the US media is not so much working for the people of the US, as passing on propaganda. I think that an intelligent, open-minded American individual is more likely to decide for himself or herself what type of people these foreigners are, regardless of the stereotypes put forward by the media. After all, the US population are for the most part descended from European stock.

  4. When in Ireland they never say she is colored, *****, or African American.  They ask you are you an American.  They know all people of color are not the same.

My Great Great Grandfather is from Ireland here in America when I say that I get the looks from some people but not from Irish people.  Whenever I go to Ireland it is great.  They are warm and welcoming.  I spent many a times having tea and being invited in an Irish persons home.

When I go shopping on one follows me around the store.  The only sad thing is that a lot of foreigners mostly the young teenagers say nasty things.  Stuff they have picked up no doubt through the media.

I go every year and when I am there I feel relaxed it feels like home and the last time I was there my friends said to me that I have Irish in my genes.  The best compliment I have ever had.

I believe that we all have a piece of something that is passed down in our genes from every person that is a part of our family and that part makes us the family of man.  Good Bad or Whatever.

    Good question and honest.

  5. No. The Irish people are very welcoming to foreign/ethnic groups. We were one of only 3 EU countries to originally allow foreign immigrants and almost 10% of our population is now Polish. One of my very good friends is Filipina and no one has EVER said anything. Many houses take in Spanish teenagers every month and cook for them and drive them to school while they are here. Whenever I go abroad we are always treated better after people realise we're Irish instead of American/ English etc.
