  1. well im not sure about tivo but we got dvr through our cable (comcast) but they both would definitely be worth the value if ur dad even has just a few series hes watching it always comes in handy if you just have to go somewhere or need to pause tv for a quick break.....well again dvr it costs us liek 15 bucks a month for the boxes and I believe tivo even has amazon unbox connected to it so you can buy movies from there and send it straight to ur tivo thing hope this helps

  2. tivo's software is much more user friendly much better designed and not glitchy.  This is what tivo does and they do it the best.

I have used tivo for almost 10 years know (since the beginning) and could not live without.  Plus you can tell your tivo to record shows from the office or at a friends house online!

  3. TiVo is better. It is so easy to install and the start up is really easy. The direction are great and detailed with big colored pictures. All the guides are easy to read and understand. The system is great. You can hook it up to your PC and move your recorded shows and movies to your hard drive than convert them to put on an MP4 player (Zune, ipod, PSP, etc.).

  4. The TiVo is a DVR that is designed to be a satellite or cable box replacement, it has a separate monthly cost that varies from time to time (different packages).  A DVR can be a lot of things, most cable and sat companies now also offer a DVR with much of the same options for cheaper, most decent retail stores offer an alternative to both in the form of a stand alone box with a hard drive, the great thing about these is that they often have a built in digital tuner for both regular TV and cable and require absolutely no extra monthly cost, in fact they also oftenly have a DVD burner so that you can make hard copies of the shows you really like.
