  1. Hi Emy

He is a Graphic Designer / Artist. Some even are Magazine Editor as well. This is my line of work and expertise. today I am the editor-in-chief but before getting here, i was a Graphic Designer. The practice and what you can do with the software, your creativty, how efficient you are and a good idea on using the software is what counts.

When I hire an artist, I will give him a pic and see if he can remove bruises, scratches etc.... from the person, or do a very light touch up on the face without killing it. When you use InDesign or Photoshop or Corel, the touch-ups must be seamless. We want fast, efficient artist who can work under pressure and with someone over his shoulder.

  2. You don't necessarily have to have a degree to get into this field. You should check with your local community college and check their catalog.

Along with Photoshop, you will need to have a working knowledge of Adobe Indesign, Quark Express, Illustrator, Freehand, Acrobat Professional, and a few others. This is because designers use all of these programs and electronic prepress operators in the printing industry must be able to use them also.

Photoshoping images is most often done either within an ad agency or at the print shop level. So quite likely, your best opportunity to get into that field is to gear yourself toward looking at the larger printers in your area.

If you have any more questions, you can e-mail me. There is a lot more information. I could type all night long.
