  1. Don't know if this is the official Afrikaans phrase, but I use this one: Om verder as my/jou neus te dink.

    I usually think outside the box when I'm in the kitchen.


  2. I just try to find a different point of view to anybody else to provide a better balance to the debate.

  3. It means: think of an unusual solution/way of doing things that is not traditional or that which does not stem from established logic.

    OK, here is an example:

    Son: I have no money to start my own business, and I am not smart enough to go to college and I don't like the military. My future looks grim.

    Father: Son, there are ways to have a good future even without college, the army or starting one's own business, you just need to get creative and start thinking outside the box.
