  1. Imperialism - This is when larger countries, known as mother countries would establish colonies in other parts of the world. A good example would America and England. England was the mother country, and they had colonies on the eastern coast of America. America obviously didn't like this, we decided to fight to be our own independent nation, we revolted against England, declared independence, created a constitution, etc.


  2. I would say commonwealth.  While perhaps the same as imperialism, commonwealths did give most of the participants a degree of improvement in economic conditions.  The British Commonwwealth is the best example, and the members still enjoy some trade and labor benefits.
