The "put toothpicks in the hole to trigger the sensor" option works OK, but it is becoming unreliable as time goes on.

  1. well, I was going to suggest a popsicle stick, but you could fabricate a new pin and jb weld it or bolt it to the lid of the washer.

  2. If it's a Maytag the repairman will be happy to fix it for you, he's probably bored out of his mind.  MacGyver would fix it with duct tape..... what a guy!

  3. Find a dealer and buy the part.

  4. MIGHTY PUTTY!

I hate infomercials, but that stuff does work.  Just mold it into the shape of your old pin and stick it on there.  Follow the directions on the package, of course.

  5. The part only cost a few dollars and is easy to replace -

  6. I'm assuming by the sounds of it, this plastic pin sticks out on the lid or something? Anyway, there are some pretty good glue/resins out there today. Being in the automotive game, there is some great stuff available for plastic parts if you know where to look. Go to a paint supplier that mostly deals with the panel beating side, and there is a two part resin available, that when set, is almost stronger than what the original part was before broken. Right now I'm using it to repair my Mustang steering wheel which is split and full of cracks, and believe me, it works. I could look up the name/brand too if you like. You may even find it online. Much better than a toothpick! :-)
