I have swim goggles and they seem to lose their flexibility and suction after a short while. The plastic that acts as a suction seems to get hard and inflexible after a while. Why is this happening? What can I do to prevent it?

  1. i never had that happened to me (been using mine for 3 yrs now).  what brand of goggles are they?  you might want to buy some better ones.

  2. chlorine and the sun.  don't let them laying out in the sun after you are finished using them and also wash them off so the chlorine isn't sitting on the goggles.  hopefully you will find these hints helpful

  3. Depends on where you are doing your swimming. If you're in the ocean, your goggles are subject to  the effects of both salt water and the sunshine, and both are deleterious to either rubber or silicone (the two main materials used for swim goggle rims). They may also be reacting to sun screen if you put it on before you go out in the sun. If you are swimming in a pool, your enemy is the chlorine and other chemicals that are used to keep the water clean.

In either case, rinse your goggles thoroghly as soon as you come out of the water, and put them somewhere out of the light.

Have you tried racer's goggles? They aren't quite as comfortable, but they don't have the soft cushioning and fit inside the brow socket, rather than sitting on it. They will last longer, but some people find them uncomfortable.

    Hope this helps.

  4. its because of the chlorine and other chemicals in the pool. try getting goggles with silicone instead they'll last longer

  5. you just have to push on them with your fingers im in swimming and that same thing used to happen to me then i told my coach and she said to push on it kind of hard i hpe that helps you
