i really want to try out for our school play: the secret garden but i dont know what song to do. i am a alto but i can reach tenor and 2nd soprano notes. we have to do a monologue which i have, a part of the song come to my garden and a song of our choice. they said they pefrebibly want a song from a musical, and i have looked at some but they i think wouldnt be right. like people told me to do popular from wicked but that is a little too upbeat i think. so if you could list some songs for me i would greatly apperciate it. and i am 15 and a girl. i dont care what part i get i just want a part male or female. thanks

  1. Yes not Popular you want something close to the style of the show and lots of people will be singing Wicked, Rent, Les Miz., as director I love something different.

"My White Knight" from Music Man

many great songs from "Light in the Piazza"

or one of Lucy's songs from "Jeykll & Hyde"

"As long as He Needs Me" from Oliver

I'll Know When my Love Comes Along" from Guys & Dolls

"Moments in the Woods" from Into the Woods

  2. The songs you probably want from the musical will be Martha's song "A Fine White Horse" or Mary's "The Girl I Mean to Be."  Lily is a soprano, so if you really are an alto you may not be able to perform the role.  I don't mean that to shoot you down.  If you have a good range, then good for you, but if you are a true alto/belter, you may want to look at one of the other parts.

If you sing something NOT from the show, don't pick anything from a show currently on broadway.  Personally I like "I Loved You Once in Silence" from Camelot or "Back to Before" from Ragtime
