Are we talking current players?  If so, that already happened, and I wasn't too upset when Mr. Bertuzzi left Detroit.  I didn't cheer for him, I didn't want him in the line-up, and I wouldn't have cheered if he helped us win it all in '07.

Well, it's your team and you have to make adjustments sometimes.  I kinda felt this way when Chelios came to the Wings years ago.  In Michigan we pretty much hate everything associated with Chicago across the board but we learned to deal with it.  You can't hate a player a player on your own team, it just doesn't help with the symmetry.

stop acting like a kid and just enjoy watching the sport. "hating" pro sports players is stupid. it's just a game and they didn't really do anything to be hated other than maybe upset someone else's hometown sports team. grow up and get over it.

If my favorite team signed the player I hate the most it wouldnt be a big deal. Half the time Pronger's serving a suspention instead of playing so thankfully I wouldnt have to see him that often.

Are you a Philadelphia Flyers fan by any chance?  All I know is that when Todd Bertuzzi signed with the Wings 2 seasons ago, it just made me hate him even more because he was a complete bum, he shied away from contact because of his little injury, and he didn't earn his paycheck.  I tried to support him and throw the hate aside but it's hard when the guy is a cheap coward.  There's nothing you really can do.  I wouldn't say you have to love him...maybe cheer if he scores but cheer for the team not the player.

Film Sith, you're an idiot with a g*y, nerdy name.  You don't know anything about sports do you?  How have players like Todd Bertuzzi, Claude Lemieux, and Chris Pronger done nothing to deserve to be hated?  How is hating players not a part of sports?  Apparently you don't have any concept of passion or loyalty because hate and love are integral components of hockey and any other sport that involves intensity, physical play, and any level of competition whatsoever.  Go jerk off to the Lord of the Rings.

I am wrestling with this now... There's a big rumor that Avery is eyeing the Stars and Brett Hull wants him bad for the team.

I hate Sean Avery... but I hated Steve Ott too.... and then I eventually liked him once he learned some self-restraint and drew important penalties.

But Avery... that'll take a lot to stomach... I'd hate to see his clown show every game... and I'd be afraid of him disrupting the focus of the team.  But what can you do?  It's like a pack mentality... you gotta cheer and defend the most hated guy if he's on your team... even if you hate him.

Yeah that happened to me this past season when Chris Simon was traded to the Wild.  I hated it at first and hoped he never saw ice time but it turned out not being too bad.  He didn't do much but scare the c**p out of the other team, but nothing stupid.

I'd still hate him.  I'd root for the team, not the player.

I've had to do it in baseball several times, as the Yankees have gotten a few players I do not like.  I still do not like them, but I hope they can help my team.

But I think the chances of dipietro coming to the rangers are pretty small. :)

Let's say Sean Avery signs with Toronto, my favourite team. I hate his guts because of his egotistical attitude but I will probably ignore that and look only at what he can provide in big hits, fights and points.

I'd have to learn to suck it up. Barring that, I'd just go grab a beer whenever he was on the ice. By the end of the second I'd have a sufficient supply of empties that I could pick him off at will. About due for a new tv anyways.
