The players list almost complete for the Open Championship
In England, final qualifying rounds for the Open Championship have finished and there have been a few surprises. The likes of Peter Uihlein could not qualify for this year’s mega tournament.
There have been mixed feelings for English golfers, some have managed to secure their spots at the Open but some failed in their bids. The 2005 U.S Open champion Michael Campbell also fell short of his effort.
There is good news for two of the English senior pro’s though, Barry Lane and Paul Broadhurst have both qualified for the British Open.
Barry Lane, aged 52, has been a consistent performer at the European Tour. He emerged victorious five times on the Tour and in 2010, he joined the European Seniors Tour.
At the Seniors Tour, he has won three times and looks to be in good shape. Barry Lane has shown that age is not much of a factor in golf by qualifying for the Open.
Overall in his career, Lane has 13 professional wins. It was 6 years ago when Lane last featured in the Open but he failed to make the cut in that.
After securing his place at the Open he said,: "I cannot wait to play in The Open again".
Broadhurst, aged 46, holds the record of firing the lowest round ever in a major. In the 1990 Open, he shot 63. On Tuesday, he won the final qualifying event at St Annes Old with rounds of 70 and 67.
Broadhurst will be playing at the French Open, before playing at the British Open, a tournament which he has previously won.
Paul Broadhurst finished T60 at the 2009 British Open. Paul also played on the European Tour and has six victories so far on the tour.  Overall in his career, he has eight professional wins.
"I am going back to Tour school this autumn, but probably for the last time," he said. "All I am trying to do is keep my game in shape for the Senior Tour".
It would be interesting to see how these two seniors perform at the Open. However, they will definitely get some local support.
