Question:

The polar ice caps are melting?

Okay, I heard from a friend that half of Antartica has already melted and in twenty years the entire world would end because water is going to sumbege the planet and kill everyone. But I think it's a lie. Does someone know the actuality of the happenings concerning global warming and the melting polar ice caps?

  1. Hmm...I never knew the earth's crust could melt (i.e. Antarctica is a solid continent)

  2. The pole ice melts and refreezes all of the time.  It is part of a cycle that has been around many, many years, so long, that no one alive now, has ever witnessed it, and no one that was alive then When this happened before, wrote about it, at least nothing we can decipher.  the other 'lie ' is that man produced Carbon dioxide is causing the earth to warm up.  There is no evidence that this is true, so think for yourself, and do some reading, you might be surprised at what you find.

  3. For every one person to say that, there are ten scientists that disagree.

  4. that kinda sucks..

  5. it now is freezing  at record rates

  6. yeah not in 20 yrs or even 200 yrs will Antarctica melt cuz in some areas its melting but in others its freezing

yes burning coal and oil and all that jazz is bad but does it cause global warming idk but it sounds a little far fetched to me

now what u gotta worry about with "global warming" isn't glaciers in the water melting but glaciers on land melting cuz thats what'll make the water level rise but it won't engulf the entire planet it'll just engulf most of the planet so there still will be a lot of land just not as much as b4 but then i guess the rest of us will die from the heat

  7. i completely disagree w/ global warming.  i believe that the earth goes in natural cycles.  from colder, to warmer, etc.  there are records of the acient japanese navy traveling through the arctic ocean and reporting that there wasn't any ice at all--and there obviously is now---also--the ancient romans kept great track of tax records, and when the were settled in Britian (which is normally very cold) there are records of wine vinyards in Britian (grapes can't grow in extreme cold).  you should read a book called "the unstoppable global warming: every 1500 years.  it'll answer a lot of questions.  also--the "evidence" given for the ice caps melting in the documentary "an inconvenient truth" turns out that al gore took pictures from the movie "a day after tomorrow" and put them in his movie as factual pictures.  if global warming was in fact happening--don't you think that he would be able to use real actual factual pictures?  just do research for yourself.  don't always believe what other people--or the media tell you.  they use scare tactics to get more of your money.  it's rediculous--just wait a couple of years--and global cooling will be happening--and we're all going to die because of another ice age :)

  8. http://www.nrdc.org/default.asp is the place to visit if you need specific information, however, I can tell you that they're more concerned about ugly polar bears than global warming. Take it from here.

  9. The polar ice caps are not melting.  Polar bears and other arctic life are not threatened, actually they're doing quite well and aren't going hungry or having to swim a hundred miles to find food.

Wasn't there something about this in Al Gore's movie?  I think so!  So...why won't he discuss it now?  Where is he when his flock need him most?  Probably making another alarmist-fiction flic to send out to his followers in return for all their money.

  10. That is an exaggeration. Yes, the polar ice caps are melting, but not at that rate and it wouldn't submerge the entire planet. The estimates are closer to 40-50 years before the caps are melted, and the sea level would rise about 20ft. I could go into much more detail, and if you're interested feel free to email me about it, but I don't feel like writing a novel here.

  11. no. the water will obtain some of the earth, but not all of it. but due to the increase of water that melted, we can possibly have some severe weather issues, animal extinction, famens, and several other world wide problems.. it will suck if it happends but we will see.

  12. That is by far the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life, now the polar ice caps are melting, but not at a rate that fast

  13. Not a lie, but maybe an extreme exaggeration meant to frighten you. While more melting is happening than anticipated, the numbers quoted to you are not correct.

You can start there, but just do a search for 'melting ice caps' and you will find lots of creditable sites to start researching on to see what is happening. Our planet still has a long way to go.

  14. Really? They say by 2050 like you said that the ice would all melt and drown all the lands of the earth! There was something about that in the news one time... about the bad weather and it's beacuse of global warming?

  15. There is a long term concern for many low lying areas. Florida, with an average of 3 ft above sea level could be devastated in the worse case scenario.

  16. Your friend is a poor source for credible information. But it is true that they are melting faster than anyone thought they would, just not as fast as was suggested to you by your dubious friend.

  17. well were poluting the planet so because of the pollution the earth is heating up and i highly doubt that in 20 years everyone is gona die cuz of a flood!

  18. I believe God and He said that He would not destroy the world via flood ever again and He put a rainbow in the sky to verify His promise.

  19. It is a lie....they won't kill me....I'm building an ARK!~

  20. Your friend is a LIER! The Antarctic ice shelf is at the largest size ever measured and INCREASING!

and --- guess what the Arctic ocean ice refroze this past winter just like it always does.... and will thaw and refreeze again this year.

  21. They have been doing this for eons! In about 10 years we will see a Global Freezing and we will be warned again! But earthquakes and storms will increase dramatically. Our earth is still shrinking and we will have many more major plate movements and giant waves killing many. There will be earthquakes in places we never thought of! If, suppose, the ice does keep melting, what about it? Will Al Gore plug the volcanoes or glue the plates so they will not shift? Otherwise, we can do nothing as Nature is producing the greenhouse gases on a giant scale! Earl

  22. The glaciers have been melting for the last 15,000 years, no worries.

Currently some are melting, some are expanding (98% of antarctica  is expanding, 2% melting).

  23. That seems awfully fast, doubt it is that fast.

  24. How the h**l does Antarctica melt? It's a continent, as in LAND. Yes global warming is real, yes we aren't helping, but no it's not at a rate like that.

  25. some say yes, some say no.  no, half of antarctica has not melted.  some pieces have broken off.  the actual belief is that if the entire thing does melt, there will be enough water to raise the oceans something like 100'  that will inundate most coastal cities & regions.  not enough to kill everyone on the planet.  also, the entire world cycles, and has for millions and millions of years.  eventually, there will be a huge melt off of the ice caps, which will cool the oceans and break down the salinity.  this will shut down the jet stream which will bring about a global cooling.  this will advance new ice sheets over the northern & southern hemispheres and we start all over again.  mankind has come a long long way since this happened last.  i'm sure that we'll come up with ways to live with the changing climate.

  26. well its true and not true no half of antertica hasn't melted but it is melting. yes the sea levels are rising but the will only take away some land and kill about 50 million which is quite alot but it will not happen all in twenty years, it will not happen at all if we all become green

  27. It sounds like your friend has been watching scare propaganda like "Inconvenient Truth." Don't worry, Al Gore's inconvenient truths are only half-truths that are politically and financially motivated. Ice caps grow and shrink constantly. There is no proof that there is any significant growth or shrinkage right now.

  28. It is a lie.  The ice caps are really rebuilding their ice.  This last winter, more ice was built again.  Your friend is what we like to call an 'alarmist'.

Look out.  It's Kevin Costner.  Waterworld!  Ack!  Webtoes Webtoes!
