How come they did not do that in Portugal with the McCanns

They didnt abandon Madeleine. The police in Portugal tried their hardest to set them up and you can bet your bottom dollar that they would have charged them with something.....anything if they could have.

The police in Goa are too lazy to charge anybody with anything. They are also too lazy to properly investigate crimes. For all her faults, at least the mother had the determination to get a proper autopsy done. If she had not done so, the police would still be claiming that Scarlett drank herself to death.

Two completely different scenarios - whilst I feel that what the McCanns did was highly irresponsible (aside from the possibility of fire or an accident occurring inside the apartment), the risk of their child being snatched would at the time have been incopmprehensible.  

It is poles apart from a mother willingly leaving her 15 year old daughter in a particularly dangerous area of a foreign country (drugs and violence have been problems for foreign visitors to Goa for years) whilst she travelled on to another destination with her other children arranging that the said 15 year old girl would follow on later.  This takes neglect to a whole new level.  Her shouting now is the only way she now has of trying to lay the blame elsewhere, whilst some evil person has committed some terrible crimes and she has tragically lost her daughter, in the cold light of day she will only be able to blame herself for leaving her daughter there.  In time she will have to face the reality of her own stupidity.  A tragic way to learn such a harsh lesson.

I agree that the McCann parents were negligent and should have been charged with neglect, but they didnt abandon Maddie so thats probably why.

she left her with adults, how is this abandonment ?

Because it's a totally different county with a totally different set of laws. In my opinion you can not compare the two cases. It's like saying, well in some countries thieves have their hands cut off so why didn't the little brat who was shoplifting at my local supermarket have his chopped off? Different rules for different jurisdictions.
