ok I know it's the chlorine, and I am not going to open my eyes under water with out goggles any more >_> (which I do a lot), after I got home my eyes have burned 3 times each time I cryed a bit (not because of the pain just because of the eyes burning) I washed my eyes out fine, took tear drops 2 times in both eyes, my eyes haven't burned up for a while everything is a bit more blurry then normal (but that usually clears up the next day after I sleep), should I take further actions?

  1. its probably the pool people put way too much clorine. just wait tell the next day and if its still bad go take further actions. (aka see an eye doc)

  2. Nope its not the chlorine at least directly.  Its combined chlorine, or chloramine if you prefer!  Too much organic matter and not enough chlorine.  Chloramine in 0.5ppm is enough to smell the chlorine smell and burn mucus membranes, eyes, throats and other places.  Normal chlorine 1-3ppm with 5 max is the level.

Super chlorinating the pool water will remove chloramine.  Raise levels 10x free chlorine level and hold as long as possible.  Do this when the sun is off the pool.  Use liquid sodium hypochlorite 12.5%, pool chlorine, works faster, let pump run for 3 hours to mix.  Check next day with good test kit for normal levels before swimming.

I feel sorry for you, I used to swim competitively and would work out at municipal swimming pools diring the lunch hour and evening.  We used to literally be blinded by tearing that would last non stop 2-3 hours.  No one could drive so we would carpool with a mom or dad.  That was before swimgoggles came in.  Then we would get up and do it all again the next day!

Alternately, your pH could need adjustment or your Total Alkalinlty is high.  Take sample of pool water to pool supply for analysis!

    You're welcome!!

  3. sleep and if theyre still blurry go to the eye doctor at costco

  4. Do you wear contacts?

I would suggest if it worsens, contact a physician. (I know you'll probably get that a lot, but that's probably the best solution!)

  5. it is best just to sleep it off, putting more stuff into your eyes may irritate them, allow your eyes to naturally flush out the offending chlorine. if it is in the day, long before you go to bed, then after a couple of hours it should go away. if the irritation is unbearable then you could put some more eye drops in or maybe try saline solution, be sure to read the instructions on the box before using the eye drops again! alternatively you could ring up a pharmacy and ask them what you should do.

    hope that helps,

    Chris

  6. it may need some more days to heal. it it doesnt clear up in about a week then i recomend you call an eye doctor.this happend to me once but it cleared up in 3 days.

  7. it's probably just your cornea taking on more water than usual and having some swelling from the chlorine depending how sensitive your eyes are. You are doing the right things, you could even just flush your eyes with saline water for eyes after the pool to help.
