The post-race rundown (Part 2)
The top six drivers had the drive of their life at the beautiful floodlit track however; the Singapore Grand Prix this year. Fans witnessed some outstanding performances in the points and outside the 10th place marker including the run from Robert
Kubica in the Renault.
The impressive young Renault driver managed to score a 7th place at the Singapore Grand Prix and his second half of the race has to be one of the drives of the season. This run will definitely convince anyone that if Robert has a competitive car,
he is capable of winning the drivers’ title. The Polish driver had to stop for a second time in the race due to a slow puncture but after driving flawlessly on fresh rubber, Kubica finished in an impressive position.
Felipe Massa on the other hand had a disappointing race at the Marina Bay in Singapore as he had to pit on the first lap to find some clear air in order to score sometimes comparable to his teammate Fernando Alonso. His strategy was ruined by the safety
car that effectively dropped him right in the middle of the pack forcing him to drive with just one pair of tyres of the entire race. Luck was not on Massa’s side this weekend and this race will not be easy for the Brazilian to forget.
The Force India driver Adrian Sutil was at it again. The young driver managed to finish in 9th place after taking some risky chances despite being battered around. Adrian had to go through a 20-second penalty by the stewards after going wide on
turn seven at the beginning of the race dropping him to ninth from eighth place.
The German rookie Nico Hulkenberg scored the final point after another slightly erratic performance to finish in 10th place after starting from 17th on the grid. It could have been more if he did not skip part of the track to get penalised
after the race.
The Renault driver Vitaly Petrov finished in 11th place and it seemed that he was a little cautious. That is something you have to avoid in Formula 1 in order to score especially in the Marina Bay circuit. Petrov decided to take of the F-duct
in order to avoid the extra distraction but gave a considerable performance advantage to teammate Robert Kubica. Vitaly needs to take some risks in order to survive in the Formula 1.
Jaime Alguesuari finished in 12th place in the Toro Rosso after qualifying in 11th place but had to start from the pit due to a water leak and screwed his chances of taking some points effectively. He was faster than his teammate Sebastian
Buemi all weekend but sadly, did not prove it in the drivers’ standings.
The legendary 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher finished in a pointless 13th place giving the critics another chance to criticize his return. After 2 accident this weekend, it would be better for Michael to forget the 2010 Singapore Grand
Prix. It was quite an insult for Michael when Sauber’s James Key said, “Kamui Kobayashi got stuck behind a really slow Schumacher”. It is quite amusing after one looks at Michaels career statistically.
Sebastian Buemi started the first lap coming together with Kobayashi and caused some performance issues as he had to pit two times disabling to put him in a position to challenge for some points.
Lucas di Grassi was the last of the drivers to finish and one can say that that is team Virgin’s goal now, to finish ahead of the HRTs and Lotuses.
Timo Glock was not looking so bad before his car suffered from a hydraulics problem forcing him to retire from the race. The Virgin driver was even in 10th place at a point and looked quite impressive as he took on a string of cars behind him.
