Question:

The potential of Romania to surprise...?

So every world cup Romania shows up, probably wins a single game against a rookie WC team, gets pulverised by the hotshots, and then gets sent home.

Whats the potential for Romania to surprise? To actually show someone up? They never seem capable of an upset?

I'm tipping Romania to score a bonus point from the Italy match, and to chalk a win on Scotland in the last few minutes, pull five off of portugal, and scrape through if the other results go their way. What do you think?

I mean surely, surely they will get somewhere, eventually.

  1. Well I'm a romanian. Moreover, one which watches rugby (they're not so many arround, since everybody is a football(soccer) fan).

In my opinion I don't think Romania will surprise anyone at this RWC. Our team is counting mainly on some players which play in foreign championships (usually France), and the rest of domestic players are not so good. There are one or two which show some talent but their only goal is to catch some good contracts outside. E.g. watch our young promising scrum half Calafateanu. But as we in Romania say: "With one flower you can't have spring"- meaning only some players are not enough to have a good team.

To produce surprise (which as you say, includes a win over Scotland) would be highly improbable since today's team is not the 80s team, which was beating France regulary and also Scotland (if I'm not mistaken) on a regularly basis.

  2. I think they'll win with the 33 point start they have in the betting world.
