i"m thinking of getting one, as i think it"s a great idea, a credit card that you cant go overdrawn on, and you top up with as much money as you want up to £150.00.

does anyone have one...?, and what are your views on it?, would you recommend them..?...

thanks for any answers

  1. i am not quite sure, when it comes to credit, especially cards,as there always seems to be a catch,it may seem a good idea in the short term,as like you say,it can be a help,at the time, especially as its becoming more of a struggle, just to survive, its always the fat cats, who get fatter, the banks, and its the customers who suffer, those just wanting to get by,if i was interested, like your self, make sure you know everything the rates, because overall in the long term, not just the short, whatever the out come,i wish you well.

  2. I think it's a great idea if you are a bank, because you get money from people and don't have to pay them any interest.

I think it is a bad idea for a customer because you aren't earning any interest on the £150 once you apply it to the card.

  3. watch out for the $1 or $2 they charge every time that you do use it, It really adds up!

  4. Just used a TMC (travel money card) from the Post Office on holiday, worked ok, you can load as much as you like before you go and you dont have to leave it on when you get back.

Big advantagen is it isnt connected to your bank account so if you lose it or get scammed, they dont have access to the rest of your money.

  5. I think the best Maestro is the Bread Prepaid card.

The best Mastercard would be the Cash Plus Prepaid card

Now, if you take a card to use abroad, the FairFx Prepaid Card, is the great card for Euro or US$

The card I've mentioned got some very low fees.

Before choosing one, read the small print and the whole fees.

    (maestro being the cheapest)

  6. check the small print, in particular on the charges...

because the Banks are making money out of it, they will get it in other ways..

  7. Prepaid cards are good for many people, and for the very reasons you stated. There are some prepaid cards that do pay interest on your account balance.

Most prepaid cards DO have high fees. There is a good article listed below.
