I'm taking lessons right now and really trying to get my swing down right...what I am experiencing tho is that my golf shot/ball flight (not swing...maybe it still is bad...but thats why Im taking lessons)...seems to be getting worse...I think its because now that my form is getting better and Im beginning to really understand the mechanics of a proper golf swing (although exectution is a totally different issue) I am not adjusting my swing to fit my equipment as much as in the past...I am really hitting a wall...anyone else experience the same thing when they really began to understand the golf swing? I have about 12 lessons left and really thinking about just stopping for now and getting some fitted clubs...what are some of your thoughts?

  1. I would ask your instructor's opinion.

Often times when you make a change, your play will suffer while you adjust to the change.  If the changes you are making are fundamentally sound, it's just gonna take time & practice until you see the results.

  2. For me, golf is simply a game of nerves against confidence. There are so many factors that come into play in a golf swing. And there are so many (big and little) things you have to remember during the 1.5 second you take to make a complete golf swing.

Once you are able to master the correct techniques and henceforth perfect your golf swing you can virtually play a nice round of golf using any type of club.

Of course you do need to have the right choice of club (that suits you), in terms of its length, 'swing weight', regular/stiff shaft, the right size grip, squared or offset face, etc. The golf pro-shop assistance could advice you on this aspect of the equipment.

  3. 90% of golf is played between the ears...when you think too much, it messes up your golf swing. As for your clubs, be sure they are fitted correctly, it makes a huge difference. Get some fitted clubs and then take some lessons...it should help.

  4. Sometimes you get yourself so wrapped up in the mechanics that everything seems to go wrong.  It sounds like you are thinking too much. Sometimes you have to take a step back, and let muscle memory take over.  Take a few days off, clear the head and go back to what you do best.  Relax and release all rigidity in your arms, hands, and jaw.............And, talk to that Pro about it.

  5. So many folks reach a certain point in learning the golf swing and suddenly think that the remaining problem is their equipment......Let me tell you Tiger could take clubs made in 1962 and still shoot sub par.   Its not the equipment....its the swing.  It does not matter if you understand the mechanics of a good swing....what matters is being able to execute a good swing on a consistent basis.
