  1. Pros:

you'll have a job for the next few years

    you'll learn discipline.

you may get training in a field that interests you, and that may help you in a career after the military.

you may get a lifetime pension if you stay long enough.

you may get to travel to places you would never see otherwise.

you will get free medical benefits.

    cons:

You are at the beck and call of a lot of superiors, 24/7/365.

you may get sent into battle.

The pay & housing may not be what you would like for at least awhile.

  2. This is a personal question because what you determine a pro, could be a con to someone else.  It also depends on which branch of the service you go into because they are not all the same.

For the Air Force and for me, my pros and cons are:

    PROS:

    Free education

    Serving my Country

    Free Medical and Dental

    Free Medical for my family

    Stead and secure job

Pay isn't too bad, with the security of always having a paycheck.

Can travel the world at the government's expense

    CONS:

    Away from family

  3. Well Jeff is right but then again one could get hit by bus tomorrow too. The only major con I found was that the starting rate of pay is rather low and if you have a family that makes it tough. Heck, a UPS starting drive makes more than a driver in the military and a cook at McDonald's make just as much if not more.  But then you start to get the benefits and add them together and in a few years they add up quick.  My cousin is now in his 12th year when he finishes his 20 or 25 years he'll be "retiring" at 45 with a $3,500 a month check coming to him and plenty of time for a second carrer as well.

  4. Pros:

Good money for the younger age bracket

All your Medical is covered for

    You get (almost) free housing

(if you like your job) you'll have a great time

    Travel the world

    Cons:

Not making alot of money for a high risk job

    Long hours

    Senior personnel are *******

Hard to make time for schooling (depending on job)

    Morale can get low

No choice of where you get to travel in the world

Don't see your family for months on end

  5. There is only one con: you may die.  Everything else is great.
