The qualifying session in Korea was almost perfect – Mark Webber
The current championship leader Mark Webber said that it was an “almost perfect” qualifying session after the Red Bulls scored an astonishing 1-2 in their final run after the chequered flag was waved.
Sebastian Vettel took the pole position followed by his teammate Mark Webber in 2nd place to lock out the front row. Despite vitally losing out on pole to his teammate and title rival Sebastian Vettel, the Australian confessed that he was happy
with this result before going into Sunday’s inaugural Korean race at the Korean International circuit in Yeongam.
“I wasn't that happy on the first timed laps to be honest it was more comfortable and more stable for me to do two times. It worked out okay obviously it was very close with Sebastian and I got second on the grid which is a lot better off than many other
positions on the grid but of course it would have been nice to get pole but in the end,” said Webber.
The Red Bulls were right behind the Spaniard before they took the spot away from him and it was truly an almost perfect performance by both drivers despite the fact that they were not looking so strong during the practice sessions.
“It is still a good position to start the race and we can still do very well from there and get a good result tomorrow. Quali went to plan today I would say. Pretty close to perfect but not quite,” he added.
Although Mark will start the race from the dirty side of the track, his title rival Fernando Alonso might have a better chance in the beginning as he is going to start on the cleaner side of the track in row 2. Webber is not worried about losing out to the
Ferrari off the line however, he will have to be careful and if he is able to finish ahead of the Ferraris and McLarens, the Red Bulls will be in a very comfortable position before the next race.
“Fernando will be pretty solid off the line for sure but it is not going to make or break the world championship so we will just get through what we can and press on from there, so certainly a good position,” said the championship leader.
The race is going to be ground breaking and thrilling race. If Mark loses his spot in the beginning, it would not be easy for him to overtake either the McLarens or Ferraris so he will have to be careful in order to maintain his lead by the end of this weekend’s
race.
