  1. i agree

  2. Drugs are all harmful. They should not be legalized. Ever. If even some illegal drugs were legalized a lot of people would suffer. So many people get Addicted to drugs and overdose on them. Sure marijuana might be fun, but when people start coming into work high or driving, or parents getting high when raising children would all make serious problems. Drugs would ruin a lot of people's lives if they were made legal, look at what they already do to people and they aren't even legal.

Yes, the government I'm sure would make a ton of money off it, because they would add special taxes when you bought them like they do with cigarettes which should also be made illegal in my opinion. But the harm it would cause isn't worth it even to the government, they rarely make good decisions, but keeping them illegal is one that is.

  3. "me and my friends were talking the other day..."

Anyone besides me picturing the basement of Eric's house from That 70s Show? :)

  4. I don't have a problem with legalizing marijuana.  It is no more damaging than alcohol, probably much less, it should be treated the same.

The problem is the government does worry about having enough money coming in (if they did we would not have a deficit)  What they worry about is having enough programs to SPEND money.  Spending money gives them power (localities jump through all kinds of hoops to get federal funds infused into their localities)

Have you any idea how many powerful government people depend on the "war on drugs" for an income?  Let me give you a comparison.

The war on marijuana...ALONE...uses more money than is made by Walmart every year!  Yet you can buy marijuana in every community in the United States and young people can obtain it much easier than alcohol.

Now, how many people work for Walmart?  A lot, right?  Something over 100,000 people.  How much does Walmart buy from suppliers?  How many of them depend on Walmart for jobs?

Now imagine congress wants to pass a law that will put Walmart out of business.  Do you think anyone would object?  Do you think the 100,000+ employees would call their Senator?  Do you think the suppliers that sell things to Walmart would object?

Now, imagine, more money is spent employing people to fight the war on marijuana, suppliers sell helicopters, infrared devices, unmanned aircraft, cars, trucks, uniforms, radios, surveilience equipment.  And which government beaurocrat is going to give up his position of power with free travel and NO requirement to produce anything?????  I mean if fighting marijuana was a private business, everyone doing it would be fired for incompetence!  There is absolutely NO desire on the part of the government to end drug use in this country, there is no percentage in it for them.  There IS a desire to continue an expensive "war on drugs".

IF we wanted to end war AND drugs, WE would buy all the poppies produced in Afghanistan, for double what the Taliban pays the farmers.  This would make us friends to the population, would give us control of 90% of the world's opium which we could then dump in the ocean, it would cost less than a war, it would deny the Taliban their source of funding and it would give us a monopoly on legal opiates for medical use.  We could sell this to countries with socilaized medicine and fund health care for uninsured people in our country.  Instead what do we do?  we send airplanes to spray herbicide trying to kill all the poppies and deny farmers an income, we can't get to them all and they plant more and we have had NO impact on the supply of opiates in the world.  In fact killing some of them has raised the price, brought more people into the business.  Of course the guy whoes field you DO spray is rightly angry and tells all his friends the Ugly Americans damaged his livlihood.  THEN we send our young men and women there to fight an anit-American force of Taliban funded by the poppies they buy and sell on the world illegal opiate market.

You think they will change?  You think Obama will change it?  Obama favors MORE governemnt involvement and you think he will dump programs that already exist and give the government power?  Get real!!!! Count up the government business and power this would eliminate and you have your answer.

It all goes back to anyone thinking the government will solve any problem.  It is NOT POSSIBLE.  It is like giving someone a job and then telling them "OK, I am paying you $1 million per, plus great benefits.  It is your job to find a way to eliminate your job...get to work!  I want a report from you in 5 years."

You KNOW what the report will say?  "It is more difficult than I thought to eliminate my own job, I will need another 5 years, but I think by then I can get a handle on it"

  5. i agree, the govt cant stop people from smoking pot, so leagilize it, and that way they can tax it like they do everything else. Sin Tax The jails would empty out, the courts would have less of a hassel, and police would have a lil bit of a easy job to do. Everyone wins. Oh its also a proven fact that pot dose less damage to your body, and you can function better then when you are under the influence of drinking. Crime would eventually go down. If they increased the penalities on other crimes, and such, crime would go down. Look at the places like Amsterdam, crime rate very low, why you ask, is because the police are doing more of what they need to, then chaseing down a kid with a dime bag. Go for it.....

  6. I was picturing kelso saying that haha
