No offense here but that is how farmers kill chickens every single day of the week,  While I find it distasteful that they are betting on it the actual killing of the chicken is normal.  The only reason that I know this is that I was unfortunate enough to witness a farmer killing a chicken when I was growing up.  I didn't particulary care for the chicken that he had killed so it didn't bother me.  (the chicken was a mean hen that would peck the h**l out of you)
