I've looked at previous entries on this topic, ie. I know you get the ferry from Oban in Scotland to the Isle of Mull, and then go to the village of Tobermory, but, has anybody actually done this, and was it worth it? After my daughter has sang Balamory, is it a nice / interesting place to stay? Thanks

  1. I know people in Balamory are fed up with sightseers. The people who live there are normal working people and they get fed up of people knocking on their doors asking to see various characters from the show. Some get abuse when the residents say they don't live here.

Talking about Balamory, don't you think that the Nursery Teacher in the show is very scary, she looks like a slapped fish.

  2. it's ok but i only wnet 4 a few days and the hotle that i stayed at was c**p (it was the western iles hotle, don't go there) but every where else is nice. the is a wiskiy distillery in the town and a few niec places to eat. there is a bird sanctuary near by and you can tack a day trip to iona (you can go to stafa from there.

it's nice there but a word of waning. there is only single trac roads on the island but there is plently of passing places.

  3. Went on a day trip from Oban.  It was fine.  Kids like pointing out the houses, etc.  It is a nice place, beautiful island, but no metropolis and not a lot to do.  Just take the day trip from Oban, or maybe stay one night as you don't have a lot of time on the day trip.

NB.  The houses have always been painted in bright colours, but they repainted some of them in different colours for the TV show, then put them back to the original colours later, so it doesn't match completely.

Also had a bit of a feeling that while the show had brought more visitors to the island, the whole Balamory thing was getting a bit intrusive. People actually live in the houses.  My visit was 4 years ago.

  4. I went there about 20 years ago.   (Tobermory on Mull).   Its wet.
