a book of scripture that puts them down? Is it that they have not read the entire Bible, or close their eyes to what it says?

First of all,Jehovah God has never approved the mistreating or abuse 0f women. The wonderful thing about the Bible is that God inspired the men who wrote the bible to write down not only the good behavior of some of the bible characters but also their errors and mistakes. And there are a lot of mistakes that the people of Israel committed and also some of the first century Christians  And this understandable due to our imperfect condition,but God punished anyone that became a practitioner of bad deeds. The Bible dignifies the role of women,according to Malachi 2:13-16, 1Corinthians11:8-12,  1 Timothy 5: 1,2  Ephesians 5:25. I would like to add, that according to the scriptures the only way a husband can divorce a wife is if she commits adultery, and vice versa. In Jehovah's Witnesses congregation, a man or a woman can be disfellowshipped if one or the other is unfaithful to the marriage arrangement. When this happens either can get married again with another person.

Well, it's kind of confusing.  Many Christians disregard sexist phrases in the Bible as only applying to a specific instance in the time it was written.  So many woman aren't "put down."  However, in my experience, the fundamentalists generally put some limits on them.  Nothing as extreme as the mormons usually, but things like not allowing them to be pastors or encouraging them to be stay at home mothers.

A bizarre phenomenon is the modern fundamental Christian woman being fairly against feminism...the funny thing is that many of the rights they enjoy (going to college, having jobs) are directly from feminists.  Mostly I think they just hate feminism because it's "liberal" and all the fundamentalists guys are afraid of it...and since they're the pastors they control everyone's mindset.
