can save on gas by locking in at low gas prices for an extended period of time. Are the automakers, speculating on oil prices going down ?

  1. Not at all.  It means the dealership is making so much profit, they can afford to offer you this deal.    Thats all.


  2. I wouldn't take it that way. I think it's more likely that they will make more money on that promise than they will if they just keep it the way it is. People will think they are getting an excellent deal, but right now it's only saving them  around $15 per fill-up (with a 15-gallon tank and 3.99 gas prices). It would take a lot of fill-ups in order to even pay one gas fill-up. The promotion is also probably limited to a relatively short amount of time (maybe  2 year?) in which time gas prices won't go up an incredible amount (hopefully), and they'll again be around the same price.
