Question:

The reset test button on my 6,000 btu a/c isnt working,a/c wont power on

it was running fine unpouged it while it was running when i pluged it back in it wouldnt start up tried the reset test buttons on the power cord the reset button worked like it should but the test button doesnt work now it is a 110 haier window unit how do i get y a/c working again anyone please help

  1. When you unplugged and plugged it back in you short cycled the compressor.The pressures did not have time to equalize.The compressr's overload might be open.Let it sit for 30 minutes or so to allow the compressor to cool down.

    When you plug her back in she'll start and probably cool like a dream.

  2. You may have smoked the GFI. When you "unplug" an A/C under load, the inductive kick could easily fry the sensitive circuitry inside, and if you plugged it in without turning off the unit, the surge is just as bad.

    By the way,you said the "reset" works fine, when "reset" it should work.

    The "test" button should "trip" the GFI turning the A/C off, then when you "reset" it it should turn on. If the GFI is "smoked, all you can do is cut it off, get a new "replacement" plug, and make sure it's a 3 prong plug, without the GFI you'll definitely need the ground.
