  1. humans start with 46. after meosis 1 there are 2 cells with 23 each and after meiosis 2 there are 4 cells with 23 each. B is athe correct answer

  2. I think when meiosis happens, two cells after the process of mitosis come together. When mitosis happens, a cell splits to make two separate cells with half the chromosomes, so that makes 12...I'm not sure. But when the split cells of the two specimens come together, they make a common cell with 24 chromosomes. I think that's what meiosis is....but forgive me if i'm wrong!

  3. B

Diploid cells undergo meiosis and end up haploid, each with one copy of the chromosome from a single sister chromatid separated from its sister.

    End of story.

  4. A

  5. The correct answer is B.

A is the result of mitosis, not meiosis. If 2 cells undergo mitosis, the result is C. And a cell in D, with an extra 21st chromosome, is a result of nondisjunction (i.e. a gamete with two 21st chromosomes is formed in error, and it combines with another gamete with one of them, and the zygote has three 21st chromosomes).

  6. The answer is B.

    A is describing mitosis

C and D cannot be right because meiosis is a process applicable to all sexually reproducing organisms. Some organisms don't have 46 chromosomes like humans, as stated in C

D is talking about a trisomy on the 21 pair, which is Down's syndrome. And again, some organisms, such as the fruit fly, don't have 20 something chromosome pairs. Some can only have 2 or 4, etc...

B is descriving meiosis; the process of cell division in sexually reproducing organisms that reduces the number of chromosomes in reproductive cells from diploid to haploid.
