I'm looking at buying a dwarf hamster ((or two)) and i need the right cage for them. each cage i look at seems to have problems yet there are some people that say they are perfect. I'm only 14 and i have to pay for it all, so i could only pay up to $40 buy less would be even better.

  1. Congrats on the new pets! Dwarf hamsters are awesome. Dwarf hams may be small, but they need more room to run than some may expect. Here are some suggestions:

If none of these cages do it for you, a 10 gallon tank with a mesh lid works PERFECT, and only cast about $20

    GOOD LUCK!

  2. ALL of these cages are suitable for 1 or more dwarfs, because I know from experience:

  3. I think you should go online first and look up how to take care of a hamster, so you don't mis treat him his whole life. This will also help you pick the right cage.

I suggest a aquarium, they ARE perfect. Completely hamster proof (as long as the cage top has latches that are secure! + has ventalation!!!)They are expensive, (my dad got me one free though), but you don't want a missing hamster!

You can make his toys (SAVE BIG $$$$) Look online see above. ^ Toilet paper holders are okay.

I'm 15 and I'm going to pay for mine too.

The book I bought said hamsters cost 150 A YEAR!! ( That includes 50$ vet. money) You should have extra in case they get ill.

OKAY, some cages are too small, I wouldn't buy habitrail :  (

the critter trail ones, the wire might be to far apart for dwarfs, .5 inches apart. The cage need s to be as big as possible.

    Good Luck

  4. mine lives in a glass terrarium and it's fine. (i got it for free at a garage sale =0)

  5. The right cage would probably be the one that has a built-in wheel, and some obstacles that the hamsters can play or chew on. If it only has a few things for the hamster to play with, always feel free to add some on your own. My dwarf hamster has a glow in the dark cage with a built in wheel and he loves it. It costs only $20.

  6. I disagree with "Get a Hampster book People". An aquarium does NOT give adequate ventilation. It will create "sweat" inside the cage and can make your hamster ill, or even cause it to die of pneumonia. I have seen many ill hamsters that were being raised in an aquarium. The habitrails are fine. They have enough ventilation to insure sweating does not occur.
