I will soon be purchasing a 1080 TV and I am unsure what type of receiver will work best with the new TV. I am looking for something that will work well with my PS3, Wii, and HD cable service. It should have an upscaling DVD player, be at least a 5.1 system, have all the major decoders (DTS, Dolby Digital, etc.), video switching, and works well iPods/MP3 players. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure if there are any compatibility concerns or advantages to be gained between TVs and receivers. As the TV has not been purchased yet, if there are any please mention with your suggestion.

  1. Your best bet is to buy seperates.  I'd advise you not to purchase a HTIB they aren't that great quite frankly.  You didn't specify a budget so I'll give you some advice.

For upscaling DVD players, the Oppos have no comparison.

For receivers, on the less expensive end, the Denon 2308CI or Onkyo TX-SR605.  On the expensive end, Denon 4308CI, Onkyo 905, Marantz 8002.

For speakers, there are a few ID (Internet Direct) companies that produce phenomenal high-fidelity speakers.  Axiom, Ascend Acoustis, SVS, AV123, Aperion.  If you don't feel comfortable with buying without listening (these companies allow you to audition the speakers for 30 days and return them if you pay for shipping) then go to a store and listen to speakers and chose what you think sounds best.

For a sub, Hsu, SVS, or Epik have made outstanding subwoofers at very good prices.

    Good luck.

  2. I don't have a fancy TV.  I think your best  bet since TV's are a big purchase is go to different stores, like Best Buy, or something like that and ask about the different TV's.  An electronic store would be your best bet

  3. i wouldn't recommend buying a surround sound with a DVD player build in, the speakers are crappy and they don't sound half as good as a decent surround sound, Yamaha make good amps, also klisph speakers are very good, stay away from bose its overpriced c**p, klisph speakers are expensive but you get what you pay for.
