The rising Italian star Marco Simoncelli ends MotoGP career at Malaysia
The Italian MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli was the most talked about rider since his debut season in the premier class back in 2010.
Since his debut season in the premier class he was running with home team San Carlo Honda Gresini, owner by Fausto Gresini.
Gresini well praised the Italian rider and counter defended any level of criticism done on Simoncelli. The usual cause of criticism on him was that he raced with harsh tactics that crashed him as well as his fellow riders.
Considering his 2010 season, he had a dispute with the 2010 MotoGP World Champion, Jorge Lorenzo due to unpleasant racing encounters.
While entering his second season in the MotoGP class he was the rider to carry the most expectations of the fans and team to show his real potential. The Italian rider was named ‘Super Sic’ due to his ability as a fast challenger.
Simoncelli is compatriot to nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi. He was also known as the rider that was fast enough to easily crash out of the race. Simoncelli shared good terms with the Rossi, following his footsteps in the premier class racing.
Super Sic had an unexpected end to his MotoGP career at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia. During the penultimate round of the 2011 season, Malaysian Grand Prix, he suffered from fatal injuries.
He was able to take start off Malaysian GP in a normal way, and pushed hard to shorten the time gap from front rider’s pack.
While entering the second lap he faced a low side tail out on turn 11. He lost the traction and slipped his bike in the middle of the corner. Instead of crashing and falling of the bike he managed to hung on and regain the control of his Honda RC212V.
As he tried to continue his race, he unwillingly steered into the middle of the track, where Colin Edwards (Tech3) and Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) approached after exiting the corner.
Edwards was left with no margin to react or steer away from the leaning Simoncelli. The Texan rider hit the Italian from back, squeezing him in the machines. Alongside riding, Rossi was also unable to manoeuvre away and hit the collided duo.
Simoncelli immediately fell of his bike lying unconscious, whereas Edwards was catapulted into the air and landed heavily on the run off area.
Rossi escaped uninjured from the incident but heavily mourned on the loss of his dear friend and a fellow rider. Rossi said that he felt Simoncelli as his younger brother.
He suffered from fatal injuries and Edwards sustained a dislocated shoulder with torn ligaments, that sidelined him for the season finale event and the post race test session held at Valencia.
Honda Gresini’s prime rider was taken to the medical facility and after an hour of efforts to revive him, the medical staff announced the death of the rising Italian star of the MotoGP world.
The Italian rider was able to take a fifth position on the grid after taking his career’s second podium finish in the previous round at Phillip Island.
