can someone please explain this saying to me? I don't really understand. Also, after explaining, do you agree or disagree? And why?

  1. You have to follow through and monitor your thoughts and actions. Eventually  you will get to love, but just wishing it so doesn't make it.

  2. Look at it this way, many of the early communists had the good intention of trying improve conditions for laborers and eliminate poverty.  Only, in order to accomplish it, they had to suppress free enterprise and eventually supress all dissenting viewpoints, leading to totalitarianism.

George Bush wanted to make the world safe from terrorism, but by using faulty intelligence and having no cogent exit strategy, he's gotten thousands of Americans and coalition forces killed, along with hundreds of thousands of Iraqi Civilians.

I do agree with the saying, and goes along with another cliche, "The ends justify the means."  That saying tries to justify the horrors I've just described by saying the goals (ending poverty, safety from terrorism) justify any hellish methods required.  So the war on terrorism justifies torture, illegal detention of civilians, and warrantless wiretaps.  You can see how that road leads to h**l.  Even if our enemies are using those same methods and worse, by descending to their level we become the very thing we are fighting against.

  3. Many people have done terrible things for what they believed was a "good cause."  They may even do terrible things while trying to help.

    And yeah, it's often true.

Examples?  Well, some Communists have good intentions, really.  They honestly just want everybody to be equal, and have an equal share, and so on, and they think that by destroying the (admittedly flawed) capitalism and replacing it with their system, they can achieve this.  They just fail to realize that their idealism isn't suited to the real world - and that the implementation of their ideals generally involves increasingly authoritarian and freedom-destroying measures.  Which is why, on the large scale, Communism consistently fails, and upwards of 80 million people have paid the price.

On a smaller scale... my wife, growing up, had neighbors that didn't report some of the strange goings-on at her house, because the family had a reputation as "Good, wholesome, Christian folks"  and they didn't want to tarnish that appearance.  The neighbors honestly believed that they were doing a good thing.

Meanwhile she and some of her siblings were horribly abused for years.  Because it WAS only an appearance.

  4. If you focus on the wrong goal, a goal which as such brings harm to others, but you ignore this and pave your path with good intentions, so you say things which sound good, you make yourself believe that there are so many good things about this goal, you recall others example, and you are full of good intentions

and still you walk the path to h**l,

then you pave your path to h**l with good intentions and I have seen this often.

  5. The Road to heaven is also paved with good intentions. It is all in the definition of intention. Intention is a plan--it is also an expectation. It has to do with getting side tracked along the way in life. In other words, you have a conscience and you know the difference between right and wrong, but like all mortals, you stray or are led astray, although you may never have meant to do harm.

  6. I always thought it meant because, you didn't live up to your obligations.  But now that I have put a few years and hard knocks behind me, I know the answer.  When you live your life for yourself, you are on your own, without any guidance or real structure.  When you give up your life to God, He is the steering wheel to your life.  So everything you do, you are guided with His love.  It is not a question of whether you live up to your word or not.  Your 'actions' speak volumes over everything else.  You don't need to worry about intentions.  God leads the way.  How can you go wrong?  Not possible!  :D  Blessings to All!

  7. People can do terrible, even evil, things with the best of intentions.

I do agree, in part, but surely the road to Heaven is equally paved with good intentions?

  8. Its an old religious brainwash saying to keep all the god fearing citizens following and paying rent like good little sheep.

I talked to god in Florida once (he was drunk too)

    He said:

    "Good Intentions bring Good results"

    Trust me he told me.
