when i checked a United flight from Washington to L.A., there was this route written:

BLUES LDN J134 HNN J134 FLM PXV J112 FAM

J98 SGF PER GAG FTI J244 ZUN PKE J4 TNP

SEAVU1

But why is there written J134 FLM PXV, normally, there must also be an airway number between FLM and PXV, right?

(same as PER GAG FTI)..

 1. not neccisarially..they can route you direct between VORs even though there may be no airway. I get routing like that all the time. There may be a Vicotr low altitude airway, but no one wants to look that up in a jet, it actually makes life much easier programming a GPS or FMS.

 2. There's no requirement for a route to have an airway between VORs. If there is no airway listed, it just means a direct route between the VORs. Perfectly normal.
