  1. Sons and daughters are The Honourable...as in The Honourable Diana Spencer - she then got the title of The Honourable Lady Diana Spencer when her father inherited his title. Her father was an Earl. His son was a Viscount, until he inherited the Earl title. The wife of an Earl is a Countess.

A Duke has nothing to do with a Lord.

Princess is the daughter of a Monarch, or the wife of a Monarch or heir to the throne.

  2. Princess is the daughter of the ruling monarch or the wife of one of their sons as a rule. daughter of a Lord is an Honorable. Duke is not the son of a lord. Duke either inherits this as the eldest son of his father the Duke on his death. Dukedoms can be given as the 2 younger sons of the Queen of England.

  3. Duke/Duchess:

Younger sons and daughters are called Lord/Lady Given Name Surname

Heirs  may assume a Duke's other titles if so possessed.A Duke may also be a Marchioness so the heir would bear the title Marquess.

    Marquess/Marchioness:

The heir will use the next title of the parent while younger sons and daughters are called Lord/Lady Given name Surname

    Earl/Countess

Daughters are given the title Lady(Lady Given Name Surname). Younger sons are the Honorable Given Name Surname. The heir will use the next title down of the parents.

    Viscount/Viscountess

Daughters are The Honorable Given Name Surname as are younger sons. The heir assumes the next title down of the parents.

    Baron/Baroness

Sons and daughters are The Honorable sir/Lady Given name Surname. A married daughter uses her husband's title or The Honorable Mrs.--.

Titles in order of precedence are King/Queen

    Prince/Princess

Royal Dukes,Duchesses,Marquesses, and the like are often also princes or princesses as well and are higher on the social totem pole than the following nobility also in order of precedence.

    Duke/Duchess

    Marquess/Marchioness

    Earl/Countess

    Viscount/Viscountess

    Baron/Baroness
