The rubber cord on my Sony MDR-v6 headphones is deteriorating in spots. It has exposed the wires inside. Will Sony fix this if I ship the headphones off to them? I really love the headphones, but it seems so fragile now I am afraid they will break soon. Is there anything I can do? Would wrapping the area in electrical tape help at all?

  1. If the headphones are still under warranty than the cord may be covered, as long as the deterioration wasn't a result of unusual wear or exposure to something out of the ordinary. Other than that they might replace the cord at your cost if at all possible.

You could cover the area with tape, howver those repairs tend to end up messy and temporary in nature. You could use heat shrink tubing which tends to be a bit more durable. Better yet might be to obtain replacement wire and a suitable plug from an electronics supplier and have somebody replace the cord that can do that kind of work.
