The russia vs. georgia conflict...?

Question

russia has pulled in short-range missles into georgia, which they say are close enough to target georgias capital, if they bomb the capital, would the US start a war with RUSSIA?

if that was what eventually happened then Russia would have already started a war we would just be reacting to the Russian aggression.

I doubt it. An Economist article I just read stated that if Russia continues to fire on Georgia, the US will probably sever relations sort of. For instance, US would discourage themselves from trading or participating in unilateral talks. The consensus among EU members was to stop unilateral relations with Russia and unilateral talks. I guess you could call the whole thing an embargo, or sanctions? Yep

But war is definately not a plausible choice for US; what with Iraq and Darfur already erupting. There's already plenty of violence that the US is handling.
