The same content 13,000 times?

Question

Let's say I have a website that sells 13,000 different types of flowers (roses, tulips, carnations, ect..).

I want to create an individual page for each.

I want to write out a description for each.

Ex. "Come see our Roses. These are very pretty Roses. Buy one of these Roses as a gift for someone or for a holiday".

Now, if I repeat that same format for 13,000 pages, with only the name of the flower varying, is it beneficial in terms of SEO? will it hurt me? will the pages be ignored?

Of course, I can create 100 similar formats and repeat those 13 times each.

It would be impossible however, to write out 13,000 unique descriptions by hand.

Thats brilliant idea. It does not hurt even you repeat so many times. As you said which is good using different ones. But i recommend you use tagging systems. That make sure you get no banned.

I understand where you're coming from, I thought I had the same problem when I put up an e-commerce store.

When the search engine to look for duplicate content.  It really depends on how much content you're changing and how much HTML is the same on each page.

For example: if you only have a hundred words on each page and you only change for those words per page.  You may have a problem with duplicate content.

But if you were to change about 20% of the text.  You shouldn't have a problem.  So take that into consideration what you're building your site.

It will be a lot easier to optimize your main page and have lots of crawler-friendly content.  Make your keywords generic as possible maybe featuring your best sellers.  That way, when a generic flower search comes up, so will your main page.
