blackjack, you can count down a shoe and bet heavy on the end if there are a lot of 10s and aces left.  In roulette, you can try clocking the wheel, but you need to memorize quickly every number around the wheel in order so you can bet the sections you want without thinking.

There's no way to "beat the system" with blackjack, unless you're referring to card counting, which is an incredibly difficult trick to learn (and most people can't do it).

    Since roulette is based entirely on luck, there's really no way to even out the odds.

Blackjack is beatable because cards are permanantly removed from play which has a real measurable and predictable effect on the odds of the game, by card countign you can take advantage of this and predict when the player has an edge with a surpisingly very high degree of accuracy  This vulnerablility is unique only to blackjack.  

In roullette all bets come equipped with a house edge, so there is no single bet, combination of bets, or seies of bets that will not have that house edge.  The amoutn you wager is only multiplied by the house edge so changin how much you bet ahs no effect on the game.  That pretty much sums up every action you can make in roullette, being where to bet, and how much to bet.  What im gettign at is there is no method of placing bets that will result in a an edge.

The only REAL way to beat roullette is to use information presented to you to predict where the ball will land.  This has been done SUCCESSFULLY with the aid of tiny computers that time the speed of the ball and the speed of the wheel to predict the actual number of where it is going to land.  This is of course very illegal and i do not reccomend it, im only presnting it as a concept.

There was once a book i stumbled accross(I dont recall the name) by an author who claimed to outline a method of performing similer calulations of timeing the ball and wheel all in his head, the book outlined the system, and the author claims to be able to perform it all in his head.  I have my doubts as to it actually being possible, but it is the ONLY sound way to attempt to beat roullette.
