Humans are the ones that should be culled not the animals. What right do we have?

Against. Will they listen? Perhaps a petition for the culling of these despicable people who can do this barbaric act!  Name them and shame them, I say, what say you?

Absolutely for it!!  Can you picture the state of fish stocks in that area if seal numbers were not controlled ? As for the simpletons who are jubilant at the loss of a vessel and crew,-words fail me,- symptomatic of this deranged world we have to live on.(and the clowns we have to share it with !)

Funny, everyone is always on about "my culture" "our way of life" "big brother" this "nanny state" that.  Yet when it comes to people that have been doing this for survival long before the white man stepped foot on N.American soil, you want to ban it or put them in prison.  Ah, yes, it would be better to bi*ch about them being on welfare, or "tisk, tisk" as you shake your head reading about the solvent abuse and alcoholism and drug abuse because some over zealous lobbyist has destroyed their way of life.  Or hey, why don't we do like our ancestors did and give them blankets laced with small pox.  So easy to judge, sitting in your warm cozy homes with your Tesco's down the street, and your made in Chinese sweat shops clothing.  

They are not doing it for sport, they're not serving it up in some fancy restraunt.  They do it to survive, and they are conservationists in the truest sense of the word, because if they abuse it, they suffer the consequences. Nothing is wasted.

Killing for sport is an abomination

Killing for food, clothing and survival is not.

I support the seal hunt because I have learned about it since elementary school and have had plenty of time to form my opinion.

Most of the things you see on youtube or read on the internet isn't true.

baby seals- It is against regulations to hunt seal pups. So there is no such thing as a baby seal hunt

Skinning alive- It is against regulations. not to mention pretty hard to do if you kill the animal properly. This is just something spread by groups to stir up emotions and generate funds.

Sport- The seal hunt is not a sport. It never has been and never will be.

Cull- The seals are being hunted for their Meat, oil and pelts. They are not being killed to thin out the population and done nothing with. They are being used just like farm animals are used. There is an effort to expand uses for the oil and meat in order to prevent wastage. The Meat is rich in omega 3 and 6 so it is good for your heart. It isn't stuffed with hormones like some farmed meat is, and it has lots of potential as animal food. Which would be nice because most pet foods now are filled with toxins. ( And my parents beagles love seal meat)

species at risk- Harp seals are not at risk in Atlantic Canada. off the coast of Newfoundland there are 5 million. this is with an annual seal hunt and the population is holding strong.

Barbaric- People have become so far removed from nature they have forgotten where their food comes from. how do you think a cow meets it's end. Many slaughter houses still knock them on the head then bleed them to death. how is that so different from a seal?

The seal hunt employes thousands of First nations and Euro-Canadians. both groups do it for the same reason to support themselves and their families. These people work closer to nature then some of the activists ever will. They seal in the spring and fish in the summer months. They know more about the animal populations and environments and if people would bother listen to them many changes could be made to protect marine species. These people don't want to kill off all animals they rely on the marine environment for their lively hood.

I read a lot of answers on YA saying " Oh the hunt has to be about money." Well of course it is. Would you rather these people do it for fun? This is the lively hood of people in rural communities. sometimes 25% or more of their income comes from seals.

for everyone against the seal hunt. look at your own culture and see how you use your local animals. Ever nation of the world relies on their local wildlife for food and products.

i don't mind people against the seal hunt. I just wish they would actually learn about it. And hear about it from the people who live here and work here.

I am against it...such a terrible thing to see happening to these helpless creatures...there should be another way for these people to make a living...It's important for anyone that thinks this practise is cruel and sick to let there voice be heard in one way or another.

I appriciate that people have been doing this for how ever long and I appriciate that there is a massive amount of seals etc, but seriously, how can people justify the inhumane way of killing these gorgeous animals? They think if it caries on at the rate it is, the population of these seals could drop by 80%.

If it is an essential task, there MUST be a more humane way of doing it! It's like fox hunting in the UK. Why should a dog be alowed to rip a fox to bits? There must be more humane ways of doing this task if it needs doing. Clubbing a poor seal is not the answer. Nore is killing the pups as this affects the population far worse than anything else.

How the Canadian government can watch those pictures of seals being clubbed to death & then say it is being done humanely is beyond me. An entire nation has closed it eyes & lost its compassion.

If it is really necessary for that many seal pups to die surely there must be a better way that does not involve so much suffering.
