The second warmest year on record was......?

The warmest year on record was 1934...no wait, that was 1998, 1934 was only the U.S., wait, NASA said different, well wait again.... I have read countless accounts of what year was the warmest and second warmest ad nauseum, and no two are alike. I have heard that every year since 1998 was "the second warmest on record." Clearly, according all data available that is only true if you measure from 1974 and cherry pick your data. Now, even though this past 3 months have averaged the coldest worldwide in the last 100 years, how long will it be before 2008 becomes the "second warmest year on record?" I would ask about 2007, but someone who is unable to look up temperature records has already made that dubious claim.

  1. 1998.

But any one year doesn't matter much.  The trend is clear to anyone who simply looks at the data.

Weather factors can overcome global warming for a short time.  As the data above shows, it happened in 1982, 1991-1992, 1999-2000.  EVERY TIME global warming came back stronger than ever.

As long as we keep making greenhouse gases in enormous amounts, global warming will dominate in the long run.  It's simple physics.

  2. I will predict that on or before January 17, 2009, someone will "officially" announce that 2008 was the second warmest year on record.  After all, I have already seen AGW graphs that show that January 2008 was actually 0.2 degrees above normal while in the article on the same page it references January as being between 10 and 15 degrees below normal.

If more people would look more closely at these graphs, articles and conclusions, that would find that nearly all of the AGW proponents do not even agree with their own, falsified data.  Hey, if you are going to lie, at least be consistent.

  3. 1998 was the warmest year on recent record (el nino).  Since then, I have heard claims of more recent years which have replaced '98 as the warmest. I think 06 is now the warmest but I can't say 100%. I would research NOAA.

  4. Here is all the stupid info you need for your precious anti global warming theories

  5. warmest ever ? What was the average yearly temperature in the year 60,000,000 BC becasue we have taken records for 200 years we think we can say what the world has been like for the past billion years or so. Maybee we should ask mr T-REX about the weather

  6. NASA GISS had 2005 as being slightly warmer than 1998.

All other global climate organizations disagreed, putting 2005 second.

NASA GISS relies upon more actual surface measurement stations but they're land-based and more than half of them are in the Northern Hemisphere, which they don't adjust for in their models.

Other than that 2005 disagreement, no other year since 1998 has been as warm.

2007 was 6th warmest.   It started out warm but started to fall off in late Spring.
