The selectors have shaken Mohammad Sami’s confidence, feels Basit Ali – Cricket News Update
The former Test batsman, Basit Ali, feels that the fast bowler, Mohammad Sami, should have been included in the 16-man squad for the One Day International (ODI) series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE).
The selectors have made some massive changes in the ODI squad, dropping some of the senior players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758,
has also been excluded from the squad after some inconsistent showings in the island.
Last month, PCB announced a 15-man side for the upcoming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012 and also for the T20 series against the Kangaroos, preferring Sami over others.
Basit believes that Sami can turn out to be a trump card for the Green Shirts in the mega event and the selectors should have given him confidence by including him in the 50-overs format as well.
“You’ve got Mohammad Sami in the T20 squad but have shaken his confidence by dropping him from the squad for the ODI series against Australia,” the former cricketer said while talking to
Pakpassion.
The left-arm fast bowler from Matara, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anwar-Ali-c45231, the right-arm medium-fast bowler from Karachi has been selected in the ODI format
for the first time.
Basit does not agree with the policies of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Iqbal-Qasim-c76980 and company, and believes that the selectors’ priority should have been the World T20, instead of trying fresh faces against a team like Australia.
"I’m unable to understand what they’re preparing for. Are they preparing for the 2015 World Cup? You have to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup, and for that, you should give confidence to the players who are going to feature in that tournament," said
Basit. "They’ve destroyed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Sami-c77289’s confidence by dropping him from the ODI side ahead of the T20 World Cup. This is not about likes or dislikes – this is plain politics."
