    Could it be you are looking for the MV Manunda?  

    The Passenger Vessel Manunda was built by Wm. Beardmores of Glasgow for the Adelaide Steamship Co.

    She arrived in Australia in June 1929 and was engaged on the Australian Coast Trade running passengers and cargo Sydney, Fremantle, Melbourne, Cairns.  Manunda and her sister ship Manoora were very popular in the 1940s.

    War resulted in the Manunda being fitted out as DEMS (Defensively Equipped Merchant Ship). Under the control Australian Shipping Control Board. Manunda was converted to a Hospital Ship at Sydney in 1940 and complied with Geneva Convention Regulations and re-commissioned as the HMAHS (His Majesties Australian Hospital Ship).

    She sailed on a Shake down Cruise to Darwin, Port Moresby and return to Sydney, then for the Middle East, and Mediterranean. In September 1956 Manunda was withdrawn from service and placed on the market. She was purchased by “Okadagumi Shipping Ltd” of Japan. She sailed from Sydney for the last time as MV Hakone Maru on October 4, 1956, In 1957 she was broken up for scrap in Japan.
